Leland Stanford Hobbs (1892-1966) was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts and raised in New Jersey. He received his commission from West Point in 1915, in the same graduating class with Dwight D. Eisenhower. He served in France during World War I and during World War II, became a major general and commander of the 30th Infantry Division in Europe.
